Nasal and Paranasal tumours : causes, signs and symptoms

Have you ever heard of tumours in nostrils? Quite uncommon right ? However, this occurs to various people around the globe. It grows in and around the alley of the nose, known as the nasal cavity. There are some nasal and paranasal tumours which are not cancerous, these are known as benign tumours. This leads to a blocked nose, where the air flow stops. Paranasal tumours are growths in air-filled chambers around the nose. 

Signs and symptoms of nasal and paranasal tumours are common so it is highly essential to consult a doctor if you notice any. The reason behind it cannot be specifically distinguished.

Nasal and Paranasal tumours occur when the cells within the nose develop DNA changes. DNA takes control of the growth, multiply rate and also when to die in a healthy condition. However in tumour cells the instructions are quite different. They make the cells develop more quickly and cause the healthy cells to die eventually, which sometimes turns into cancer.

Risk factors :

  • Smoking tobacco increases the risk of nasal and paranasal tumours.
  • Breathing polluted air is a major concern.
  • Frequent exposed to chemicals
  • Affected by Human Papillomavirus (HPV), which develop through sexual contact with the affected.

Tips to prevent nasal and paranasal tumours :

  • Quit smoking
  • Follow safety protocols when you are in chemical exposed spaces
  • Take a HPV vaccination
  • Consult a professional
